Esme Figures It Out

Esme's been looking a bit plumper, lately, and a couple of times she's actually beaten Magrat to the food dish, so it wasn't entirely a surprise to find two eggs this morning, but it was nice to see.
Thus far (although it may change as she gets used to it) Esme's are less blue, less pointed and a little larger. They're also covered in bits of bedding, because either she hasn't figure out the nest box or Magrat hogs it....

And, here you go, have a picture of the old man:

Still looking good, even if he is getting fluffy. |

Beautiful view of the milky way tonight. There are compensations for the seasons changing so that the late-evening pony check and feed is in the dark!
This afternoon, I planted some bulbs (Chionodoxa Luciliae, in the lawn near the sundial, and Grape Hyacinths, under the kitchen window). Part of the process involved ripping out a couple of big clumps of Lady's Mantle, which I seem to have been doing quite a bit of lately: it's very pretty, but it's a terrible thug and self-seeds like a bastard. I'm sure that I didn't get all of it out, but I'm fairly relaxed about that: a small amount is nice, and I'll know to keep it on a shot rein next year. After I'd pulled it up, I was bemused to see that the now-bare soil was strewn with tiny bulbs, even where I hadn't been digging. I think that they must be the snowdrops that I put there last spring when I split some of the bigger clumps from elsewhere, but I'd planted those fairly deep so migrating up to the surface was a mystery: I've replanted them at an appropriate depth, and we'll see what happens. |
