Hmm.

If the pope dies after he's resigned, do you still get points?

(You do get double points if the pope dies and then the new pope also dies.)

I hope so - he's on my list! I presume one has to shuffle off the mortal coil as well as be an ex-Pope.

I would have said that the death list referred to people, not positions; if you refer to a particular position, you're really talking about the person who held it at the time you referred to it. So predicting "Ratzinger" or "the Pope" at the start of the year is just two different ways of saying the same thing.

Maybe people should be expected to be more specific - saying 'Pope Palpatine' and not just 'The Pope'...

Nah, if you do that then you have no chance of double points!

My point exactly - make people name a person, not an office (even if the office is very closely associated with the person holding it)...

But that's not fun: double points mean double imaginary prizes!

"Pope" means you only get points when they die in office, but can have many in one year
"Pope Benedict XVI" means you only get points for him dying in office, assuming he doesn't keep the honorary title after resignation, like US Presidents do

I think you should ban roles in future, otherwise "World's Oldest Man" would be a moneyspinner.

Yes, I suspect you're right, but I'd have to go through and check the exact entries, as I just have them all as "The Pope" on my spreadsheet!

The Pope is the only one like that, mostly because the death list that this death list grew out of was itself an offshoot of a Papal death date pool!

No entries for the Queen, then?

True, but if she goes there's *unlikely* to be another The Queen in the same year!
