Sigh

I know that lots of people don't give a toss about protecting their personal information, but really, is it that much of a leap that people might be annoyed that you have given their data to a third party in order to have that third party ask if they mind their data being given to a fourth party...?

I still don't understand why they needed to use a 'bulk email' agency at all.

All you need is a decent email client and SMTP and you can do it yourself. It's only a few thousand people after all.

I believe that it boils down to not wanting to be blacklisted for sending too many messages too quickly, and not having planned enough ahead to be able to slowly increase the volume of traffic and avoid that.
