Having been triumphant about (almost) finishing planting everything out, I let Mike go shopping on his own.... It turns out that Homebase are giving away left-over plug plants (with a charity donation box), so he came back with half a dozen each of strawberries (but three of them were pretty much dead), violas and sweet peas. They've gone in containers, other than a few of the sweet peas that I'll be looking for space in the borders for!
I've finished the first of the complicated bits of quilt, and breathed a sigh of relief that it seems to have worked:
