On Monday, we went to visit Ted. He is very much a riding school ploddy cob, although he seemed very sweet. I would love to know what his canter is like when he actually gets going and enjoying it, but didn't manage to make it happen (not helped by a half-underwater school) and fear it may not be a thing that ever happens. Mike did get a few short canters out of him, but as soon as you stopped pushing he stopped going. On seeing the video, our riding instructor declared that there was something wrong with him in one direction, backed up by the fact that there were a couple of little bucks when the owner and I asked for canter that way around.
Today, we went to see Rum Punch. He's just come over from Ireland, where he did lots of hunting and jumping and suchlike, but the advert said "He is a lovely in between ride, not to fast and not to slow" so I thought I'd give it a go. He seemed sweet but quite terrified, which always leads to wondering what they'll be like when they're not in a strange place and being bullied into behaving. He did have a lovely canter, but unfortunately didn't seem to realise that there is a pace between it and walk. Didn't let Mike get on.
Back to the adverts....
(Otherwise, all is well, although Jodie felt that her third walk of the day was a bit of a swizz: she liked to one where she came for a ride with the boys, and she liked the one where I took her in the woods, but the one where she went in the car, drove around for a bit, got left on her own, drove around for a bit and then was back at home was just useless.)
