Busy, busy

I've had a productive day, today.

With a little help from Mike before he went off for a meeting in Swindon, I finished raking the edges of the school (pulling down the sand that the horses kick out of the track line and up against the boards around the edge). Then I planted out a thyme and a random forced bulb that I'd had in the house. After a bit of spade-use-fail, I got a trowel and dug up some of the bigger clumps of snowdrops, then split and re-planted them. I fear that the trowel will never be the same again:

A little while back, I found a pretty but rather battered old bench under some junk in a stable. I moved it out under the overhang of the barn, and it's a convenient place to sit down and have a rest while snuggling the pooch. Today, I used some of the left-over paint from the decorating to give it a bit of a face-lift, and now it's back in place looking (temporarily, I'm sure!) bright and clean.

My skip arrived just after lunch, so I've been pottering around this afternoon putting things in it. All of the bits of old cupboard that we'd dumped on the lawn have gone in it, other than the old kitchen units (which Mr Next Door might want for his workshop: he's going to come and have a look to see if they're any use, but I fear that sitting outside in the rain might have been too much for them and he'll have to settle for the other old kitchen units that are in a stable), and I've made a start on the stables: all of the actual rubbish has now gone, other than a few big sheets of plywood that I need a hand with, and the most of the remaining stuff has been sorted into "wood ready to burn", "wood ready to burn after it's seasoned", "wood that needs to be chopped up for burning" and "wood made into things that can probably be smashed up and then burnt". Inevitably, now that the wainscoting in the hall has been done, I found a stack of unused tongue-and-groove boards (left over from the bathrooms, I presume). I say 'most of', as one of the stables contains lots of stuff left over from decorating projects in the house: the unopened boxes of tiles are worth keeping, but I'm not sure about the white stone flags; I'm not even entirely sure what they're left over *from*, as they don't look quite right for the shower room. Getting there, but I'm having a rest, now....

And the usual horse- and dog-related activities, of course. Pretty flowers in the woods:

(Most of the bluebells aren't out, there are just occasional ones scattered around. Not sure why that little patch is early!)

Someone's been making a den:
