Hide-and-seek in the fog
It's been foggy here today. Down at the house it mostly cleared to just being overcast by about lunch time, but up on the tops the cloud was that bit nearer the ground, so it was still a bit spooky up there when I walked the pooch.

I'd forgotten that the hunt was going to be around today. I should have twigged when all the local dogs were making a noise as we left the house, but it was only when we were half way up the hill that I remembered. As Mike was off in town, with the car, I only really had a choice of the woods on either side of the valley, and they were planning to visit both so I just carried to the bigger one, with the plan of going straight through it and into the wood on the other side where I didn't think the hunt would go.
As I got to the top of the hill, a car pulled up and the driver asked if I'd heard them yet: I hadn't, but did a few minutes later just as I got into the wood. We kept hearing them, off in the distance, as we had out walk: Jodie was a bit twitchy, and didn't stray far from my side, but she relaxed a bit as we got further away and did have a bit of a romp. Of course, at some point we reached the furthest extent of the walk and then had to head back towards them. I was completely wrong about where they'd be, annoyingly, so I came back quite close to them. I did pop Jo on the lead when they were in sight, but she showed no inclination to go off after them.
Although I wasn't really here to check, the boys seem to have been ok with it (I think that this is the closest they've been since we moved in, so I was a little concerned). That said, GB was very unhappy about coming in this evening, which was odd: he was up at the top of the field when we went to get them, and didn't come down when I called him (the Baby showed some inclination to come down to Mike, until GB glared at him and he stopped again). If it had been earlier, I would have said it was the hounds or the fog, but the wind's got up a bit now so manybe he could smell something on it that he didn't like. All the way down the hill, he kept stopping and staring off down the valley, and even when he was in his stable he was stopping between bites of dinner to come and look out of the door and check that whatever it was hadn't snuck up on him when he wasn't looking. I hope he settles down, or his bed will be horrible tomorrow....
Edit: Hmm. Maybe he was worried about the incoming Weather. Fortunately, the update at the end of PM warned us whole minutes before the thunder, lightening, hail and rain hit us....
