When the rocks for the grass bed were delivered earlier in the year, they were in a wire mesh cage attached to a pallet. We pulled it off and put the pallet on the stack of pallets (this year, half the hay is on pallets rather than old fence posts, and we're fairly confident that it all will be next year), and I kept the wire cage with a vague plan to put leaves in it to rot down.

A few weeks ago, I was buying sweet pea seeds from Suttons (and a rootainer kit: although it's true that loo roll middles stuffed into small biodegradable pots work reasonably well, they're somewhat unstable and a faff to keep watered) and had a quick look at the sale items: three leaf sacks, specially designed to rot at the same rate as the leaves in them, sounds like a bargain at £3.

This afternoon, I thought I'd do something about the leaves on the lawn. By the time I'd finished the back garden, I'd texted Mike to tell him to get more leaf sacks if he saw any when he was in The Country Store....
