Anemones!

Given that I was posting photos of wood anemones by the 17th of March last year, we've been eagerly, and slightly worriedly, looking for any sign of the leaves for a couple of weeks, now. Today, we had success:

This afternoon, Mike's been mowing the lawn and I've been doing some more fedging, along the other bit of crappy fence where we took leylandii out and (as I had a few left over twigs) experimentally across the edge of the orchard, to act as a wind-break. Not sure how that bit's going to do, as it was just into the ground without any weed suppression fabric, but we'll see.
My new, low-maintenance bed is also nearly finished: we've moved most of the tonne of rock, now we just have the two tonnes of gravel to do.... Suggestions on the most efficient way to get gravel out of a builder's bag and into a wheelbarrow to move it from the garage to the back garden are welcome. I'm contemplating sacrificing a mixing bowl. |
