I've just got back from taking Jo to the vet for her jabs and checkup: all looking good, although she's put on about 1.5kg, which I suspect is because there's been a lot of things like roast chicken, most of a pack of ham that got dropped on the floor, and (home made, salt free) pork scratching in her treat box lately: need to keep an eye on that. The vet confirmed that the itching almost certainly was her anal glands, which is a relief: they were very full, and made quite a mess on the floor when they went splat. He's not too worried about her occasional limping on her nearside hind unless it gets either more consistent or more persistent, in which case he'll probably x-ray to check for arthritis.
On the way home, we stopped for a run in the woods, and she brought me a lovely present:
Am now googling 'how to dress a pheasant', because it seemed silly to just leave her for the foxes to get.
The boys had their saddles checked this morning: GB's was still fine (to the extent that, given his leg, she wasn't bothered about seeing me ride him), Baby's.... well, when she saw him she said 'god, he's filled out!'. He's now got the largest gullet plate that can go in the saddle, so new saddle if he gets any bigger. I honestly couldn't tell if he felt better in it or not when I jumped on him so that she could see it in canter, as he's been lethargic for the last few days (ever since Saturday night's first frost of the year: probably just lack of energy because his body's gone 'shit, need a winter coat!') and still was today.
We've been ragworting, the last few days: we've been noticing a few of this year's new plants, and found even more when we actually looked. At least they're easy to get out at this time of year, before they've grown their enormous roots! |
