Cone Of Shame

Poor Jodie, with the Cone Of Shame.

She's back home with us: the vet said we should keep an eye on it, as she's made it worse overnight by licking it (probably to get the remains of the stitches out), and she has to be kept very quiet, so no walks at all. Cone of shame at night, when we're not around to keep an eye on her. I'm not sure how well she'll fit in her crate with it on, should be interesting.

Pathology's back: it's a low-level level two Mast Cell tumour, which the vet made to sound very reassuring until he started saying "Whatever you do, don't Google for it, she's going to be fine." Inevitably, given that she's popped her stitches, the type of tumour means that it will be slow to heal. On the plus side, it's such a big wound because they took a lot of skin out with it, and the biggest risk with them is apparently that you don't have the space to do that and so leave a bit behind.

Half an hour later, she rolled over for tummy time and there was blood on her leg, and it was gaping more than it had been.

She's back at the vet now, poor thing. The look she gave us when we went away and left her there *again*....

Jodie's back home again, and woozy again.

This time, instead of a big X of external stitches in the middle, she's got a neat row of little X's all the way along. Plus side, this will help it hold together; minus side, we now have to be careful that she doesn't fiddle with them. Cone of shame for her, I'm afraid.

When the vet called to say that she was waking up, he said that he'd had to cut away more skin to tidy the edges of the wound so that he could re-stitch it, so now it's really rather big and there will be Problems if he has to do it again. We've to be very careful to keep her quiet, and no walks until she goes back to be checked on Tuesday.

At least she's back home with me, though.

(Maybe we *should* have had her insured....)

The new farrier came this morning, in amongst everything else. He seems very nice, did what looks like a nice job on the boys (certainly didn't take too much off) *and* booked our next visit there and then.

And I put weed suppression fabric and then bark chippings over the worst bit of the ground elder, and almost made the duck house (almost because I need Mike to drill a couple more holes for me to fix the roof firmly in place, not being allowed to use the drill on walls myself).
