Mystery plant:

(Not actually in our garden, but it's everywhere in the woods. Does anyone know what it is? There's so much of it that we feel we ought to, but I'm wondering if it just never gets any more interesting than this, so one just wouldn't notice it later in the year when everything else is showing off.)

Edit: Hmm, Dog's Mercury, possibly?

We did do a bit in the garden this afternoon, though. We carried the old, Jodie-fied kitchen door up to the people at the top of the hill (she wants to use it as a table top for in the garden), and offered them the doors from the old kitchen units, then, after walking the pooch, Mike disassembled said units with prejudice (and a lump hammer), and we finished putting stuff in the skip. (Note to self: let the Next Doors know that they can fill the small amount of remaining space, if they wish.)

After that, Mike mowed the lawn while I did a bit of tidying up outside and then moved some of the sweet pea seedlings into bigger pots outside. I also tried a sacrificial one in the ground, we'll see what it does!

While Mike was mowing the lawn, we took the cover off the pond (not seen the heron in a couple of weeks...) and discovered that Mike was wrong when he mocked the frogs for trying to spawn in a fish-filled pond:

(Just one of several big clumps.)

And then we sat outside and had a drink, for the first time this year, which was lovely!

I was annoyed that my attempts to photograph the baby larch cones failed so miserably, so I brought a sprig back to try again with a quieter background. It still didn't work brilliantly....

There's a great tit on the front patio, frantically gathering up every speck of Jodie's fluff that it can find. While cute, this is also pretty stupid: there are two bird feeders crammed full of the stuff, if he just flies a bit further....
