Amusingly, one of the people on my occupational therapy basket making course is an occupational therapist: she's retiring soon, and her son bought her the course for Christmas as it's Just Wrong that she's never made a basket in her entire career....
Hopefully, it's going to be a large, vase-shaped thing. It's a slightly too small for comfort group, though: we're all having to work at the pace of the second slowest person, the slowest getting bits finished off by the instructor so that she can keep up, so there's a fair bit of sitting around. Tomorrow should be better, though, as we've now got a big long stretch of making the sides before we need the next bit of instructions.
Willow and misc twigs gathered from hedgerows and coppices are harder to work into a basket than the commercially produced cane I'd used before. It's quite fun, though, and I have a few ideas that I want to play with. I also have a few ideas for things to plant in the garden....
Oh, I forgot to say: we gave the wisteria a hair cut, yesterday, which was fun: hanging off a ladder trying to pull it out of the roof. We also gave the not-Virginia Creeper an ankle cut, because it looked like a nightmare to get down from the roof, and isn't actually very pretty. Hopefully, we can just wait for it to go crispy and pull it down later in the year. Or maybe I'll get up there on a ladder and pull out the straight bits! |
