Happier pooch

Although she does keep disappearing into places she doesn't really fit, like under the shelves in the barn or behind the sofa, Jodie seems happier today:

When she came to 'help' poo pick the field, she brought Squeaky Ball with her. But then she put it down and forgot about it until just now, when we brought the boys in (and she then carried it back to the barn, and left it alone as soon as we were done with the boys and ready to pay attention to her again). Duck has been getting some attention this afternoon, in the absence of Squeaky Ball, but not much; Duck is hampered by being slightly too long to easily fit behind the sofa when carried in her mouth. Poor Bear has been dumped back in the shrubbery.

There's been a lot less whimpering going on. Not sure if that's because she's settling down or because having her babies there was making it worse: when there has been whimpering, it's usually been when she was holding one of them.

We took her for a walk up the hill this morning, and she seemed to enjoy it. I'd decided that she really had to eat *something* today, as she's barely eaten since the op, so after a bit of exercise and as a last-resort-before-cooking-rice-and-chicken for her I just gave her a handful of the tasty special vet biscuits, which she ate. So I gave her another handful, and she ate those. And another. And then I picked some of them out of last night's dinner, and then some more, being progressively less careful about not 'accidentally' getting some of the meat and regular biscuits mixed in with them, and in the end she ate most of last night's dinner as well, so I'm much pleased. Could be the exercise, could be the not having to worry about getting back to the babies, could be that she's feeling better: either way, I'm very relieved.

I had (before she ate that) asked Mike to get some gooshy food while he was out, so I think she can have some of that and vet biscuits tonight and then normal meat and vet biscuits tomorrow.

The vet came out to look at Next Door's horse, and it turned out that the tear in his foot was worse than we'd thought in the dark last night: there's a big flap that's hanging off, and in the tear he found a penny-sized flake of flint, which presumably was the cause of the trouble. I've been tasked with assisting in changing the dressing ever couple of days for a week, but it should heal up nicely, and at least he's not in work!

(The fish seems to be fine. Who knows, maybe he was just having a little rest.)
