New year...

... new lens cover!

Making juice with fruit left over from the big Christmas veg box. NB to self that slightly squishy pears make the juice taste very watery and thus should be avoided.
Things and observations:
- Taking a slightly poorly dog that's been in a rescue for a month and gradually building up her stamina so that she goes from being exhausted after half-an-hour of walking to being a little weary after an hour-and-a-half is a a good thing except when it rains all the time. She's fine with a short walk one day, maybe even two, but this afternoon we got back and she kept wandering backwards and forwards in the living room until we let her out to go and wander in the garden, and when we went back out to get the boys in she seemed to think that actually it was time for the rest of her walk, now....
- The field continues to be sodden. We've had to move the temporary dividing fence a bit higher this evening, because they've churned up the bit nearest the yard where GB hangs out when he wants to come in out of the rain. OTOH, pleased to say that both boys have come in immaculately the last two evenings.
- I de-sloed the sloe gin over new year. Everyone agreed that the gin was tastier than the shop-bought bottle the WWOTV bought us for dog-walking. The sloes proved to be impossibly tedious to de-stone, though, so I just steamed them for a bit and then mashed them through a colander with conveniently just-less-than-sloe-pit sized stones. That probably rescued half the pulp, which was added back to the results of the steaming and added to an apple crumble.
- Some fans really are idiots, aren't they? I couldn't agree more.
- Although in some ways it's the least pressing thing to be done, being a non-public area, I suspect that the first major job we're going to get done on the interior of the house is ripping out the old kitchen cupboards in the back store room and putting shelves in there. I could fit so much more stuff in if we did, and having just taken the tree down I realise that I need more space for Christmas stuff than I currently have. I seem to have acquired more, this year!
Will probably start the death list spreadsheet tomorrow evening, so get your names in (see earlier post) if you want to play. |
