The two chaps are back today, taking out the big leylandii, and burning the foliage (hopefully not trashing the grass too much in the process: they're doing it in the stableyard).
A bit more than half of the top is now gone, and it's already much brighter in the dining room.
This morning, in the damp, I moved the electric fence along a bit, and put in another one at the other side: the idea is to slowly move them both to the other end of the field, so that the boys just get a new strip of grass every week or so and the grass at the other side has longer to recover. It's probably fairly obvious from the picture where the electric fence is, and which side is which....
It's very soggy out there. I probably would have kept them in, if it wasn't for the fire outside their stables, so they've had a treat and gone in the unused part of the field for the day. I put in another strip of grass matting by the gate, too: GB will keep standing there waiting to come in for his dinner, and it's getting quite churned up.
We've also, finally, got a house sign. We hadn't to date because the only ones we'd seen that we really liked were horribly expensive, being a custom-made wrought iron picture of whatever you asked them to do. But then I got a catalogue in the last BHS magazine for a company that did a similar thing but with the pictures made up of your choice of elements from a standard catalogue, so now we have:
