Adventures in house and horse buying

The house situation has been a little up-and-down recently, with dates moving forwards and backwards, lying bastard estate agents, quotes for work that contain both 'perfectly reasonable' and 'sounds like a rip-off' in the same document, and worryingly vague emails from surveyors. The latest absolutely firm date for the move is the last day in July, but I'm not going to trust it too much until there's paperwork (fortunately, our vendor's vendor is in Scotland, so we should have some certainty on dates fairly soon). I am attempting to cultivate an attitude of Zen. I'm not really succeeding, but I can usually distract myself from fretting by thinking about furniture and paint schemes.
Mike's new pony is settling in well, though, so some things are good. He watched, wide-eyed, as vgrumpybastard was hogged yesterday, but hasn't yet us near him with the clippers turned on: we're trying to build up to it gradually. He's being a little naughty about standing still when he's just been mounted, but I think that that's partly Mike not sitting well enough; I'll be riding him in a lesson on Wednesday, so we shall probably have Words then. Generally, though, Jonny is doing well, and he seems to be associating Mike with good things (like carrots, which he's finally figured out). I have less good associations, because I do things like make him stand still / pick his feet up / have his sore spots poked at, but he doesn't seem to actively dislike me. The other horses, other than GB, seem to quite like him, and even GB (afaik) isn't doing much other than pulling faces and lunging at him a bit. Certainly, he's not coming in covered in injuries every day, which is a good sign: there was a bit on his first night, but that seem to be all. |
