Much to his annoyance ("What? No! I don't do this any more!"), I stuck GB's saddle on him today, two weeks since the vet's visit and several days since there'd been any heat in his leg.
I took him in the school. He was a little stiff in the walk at first, but he was fine after a few minutes. I was starting to get worried that he was being very obedient and hadn't even had a little buck, but then he decided that the scary corner was especially today and started trying to run away from it in a much more normal way (although it was windy, so I suppose I can let him off. It didn't help that, on the third try at making him actually canter into the corner, a car went past quite fast and spooked him all over again. We mostly managed on number five, and I let it go at that).
I rode him for about fifteen minutes, then jumped off to check the leg: still fine.
To his even greater annoyance, I then got back on him and did some of the stuff that he'd really been having trouble with: no problems, he span around quite happily in both directions, and did some lovely corner lines straight off. I jumped off again: still fine.
I led him out of the school, to his pleasure, and then got a filthy look when I got back on him *again* in the yard: I wanted to try him out on a hard surface, so we had a nice spanking trot up the lane and back.
Checked his leg again: still fine. Got a second, and third opinion: still fine.
Phew. Assuming that it's all ok tomorrow, he's officially back in work.
(He was only out there for about half an hour, and was already getting sweaty. He's doing his annual mammoth impersonation, but I've put off clipping him as there was no point until he came back into work. That'll be a job for next week, then! At least you can't see his grey so much when he's hairy....) |
