Weather whinge

Still no more rain. They’re saying we’ll get some at the start of next week, and I hope we do because the field is looking very short and dead. We had another frost last night, but only a light one.

Mike gave GB a hair cut, but continues to change the subject when I point out that GB isn’t the only one in need. For some reason, Mike doesn’t trust me....

I’ve been doing lots of weeding, and am now getting towards being on top of it. Not being able to get onto the flower beds from October to March meant I wasn’t able to get in and clear the autumn weeds, so it’s all a bit of a mess.

For my birthday last year, Mike got me a kantha embroidery kit, which I finally got around to doing over the last couple of weeks. It’s understated, but I like it:

I definitely hope it will rain soon. The ground is rock hard and I poured several watering cans' worth over the garden this morning to no visible effect. Did a bit of desultory weeding, but it was hard work and the flower beds are still full of grass, weeds and at least one green alkanet.

I'm quite haphazard about watering, but when there are cracks in the earth even I notice that something needs to be done. Having said which, I don't water things like the mediterranean herbs, the huge poppies, the grass or the buddleia. But I do water the roses, the clematis, the parsley and the more delicate flowers. A couple of years ago I lost all my beloved dahlias because it was so dry. Must try to find a garden centre that will supply me with some Bishops of Llandaff.
