New quilt!

Mike bought me a stack of fabric for Christmas, and I've been making a somewhat experimental* quilt with it:

* It's pieced wrong sides together, and then I've snipped the seams. It's also got three layers of poly batting, and is hand tied, so it's incredibly soft and poofy.

Zu Zu tried to go for me when I was cleaning out their house yesterday; she's been squeaking and occasionally hissing at me all along, so I'm hoping that this is a good sign that she's feeling movement in the eggs, but it's made me realise that, in retrospect, I probably should have been at least stroking her every day to keep her used to being handled, 'cause she's not going to be happy when I start picking up the babies....

Oh, will that be what people call a "rag quit"? Love the fabrics!

Is Zu Zu food motivated so that bribing her with treats might soothe her ruffled feathers?

A rag quilt is quilt-as-you-go, so each block is made up into a sandwich and then they're sewn together with the raw edges exposed. Similar idea, and it was my starting point.

Given her reaction this morning, I fear not!

It's a technique I've not seen before - looks very effective but I doubt I could bring myself to leave all those raw edges...

I do like the poofiness from the layers of batting and being hand tied though.

I think I made it up in my head, although I'm not sure. I thought I might find them horrible, too, but actually once they're ragged it's not too bad.

You're braver than I am - I'd worry that I'd have to go back and finish all the raw edges because I couldn't stand leaving them.
