Sigh. And the early tomatoes have blight (although the later ones, farther from the polytunnel door, seem clear so far).

Home now, all well (other than Mike coming down with a cold). Will catch up on email over the next day or so....

Slightly worryingly, just after coming in from picking veg I noticed a couple of big-but-minor blisters on my fingers. I did pull a couple of weeds (without gloves) while I was out there, but I'm now wondering which of them were noxious.... There was something unfamiliar with purple flowers. Hmm.

I had a couple of marrows too. doop has turned them into curry which worked reasonably well; but there were only two of them...

OTOH the first bunch of grapes was ripe when I went out into the garden yesterday!

Our grapes are going purple! Must remember to net them tomorrow.

I have at least six or eight tubs of slow-cooked courgette goop (as opposed to doop...) in the freezer, else I'd have made more today. Actually, I could make more as long as I remember to use it for my lunches when Mike's away!

My haul was a handful of raspberries eaten straight from the cane, and 3 small and one ribbed tomatoes. The latter was delicious with sausages for breakfast, the first of the small ones in a sandwich with ham and cheese for lunch. There are lots of green tomatoes and some courgette flowers, no sign yet of any courgettes, so things are certainly going slowly in this garden.

The cabbages survived in their washing up bowl.

I got a splinter in my finger from something dead and nasty, but it seems to have come out again without ill effect.

I can't figure out if you do badly with courgettes or we do well! We've been eating them for a couple of months, now. Do you start them off indoors or sow straight into the ground?

Normally I get small plug plants from friends who do the sowing thing. This year I have two plants that grew themselves from who-know's-what seed because they have nothing to do with me. And neither is in full sun, which may make a difference.

Ah, so they might be self-seeded, so not necessarily a good plant, or just plants that managed to overwinter, so are worn out. That makes more sense!
