Minor crises

We had two minor crises before breakfast, yesterday.

First, Mike came back up to the bedroom after he'd fed the horses and said I might want to go and look at [livejournal.com profile] vgrumpybastard's nose.

He got a little scab on it, shortly after we moved them, which I thought very little of. Then he got a lump, running along the lower part of his nose, which I've been Keeping An Eye On but not worrying about too much as it wasn't hot or sore. Then, overnight, he must have been scratching it: when Mike went out yesterday morning, it was a big oozing sore, on top of a much smaller lump. Lovely. I gave it a wash and borrowed one of The Gelding Over The Road's flymasks, as they have nose covers, and left him to it.

I gave it another wash in the evening, and was pleased to see that it was much less weepy and sore looking, but unfortunately he then must have gone straight into his stable and had another good scratch, because half an hour later there was blood running down his nose.

I didn't get a vet out on Monday, because bank holiday and not really worrying, but I was thinking about getting one today, rather than waiting for Thursday and the reduced call-out fee. Mostly, I was worried that it was an abscess, and that the fact there was still a lump meant that not all of the pus had all come out, although it didn't smell as bad as I believe that they do. I decided to play it a little safe, and called to speak to a vet this morning, who also thought I should play it safe.

Unfortunately, the vet came early so I was out at Pilates and Mike had to GB-wrangle, but he was apparently very good, even when she stuck things into the hole to see if there was anything in there, although he complained about having his antibiotic injection. He's on powder antibiotics and anti-inflamatories for a week, and hopefully that will clear it up. As long as he stops bloody scratching it raw every night....

Fortunately, I only missed the vet by a bit: I passed her just before the start of our lane, and she jumped out while I was reversing into a side-turning to let her passed and we had a quick chat. She's also a little worried about Cushings, because one of the symptoms is slow healing of / infections in minor scrapes. It's not something he's had a problem with before, but I was already slightly concerned after the state of his winter coat last year (and the vet thought he was overly hairy for this time of year, but that is normal for him): if it is slow to heal, I'll get him tested.

The other drama was that I had a phone call from Ikea, saying that they were outside. "No you aren't," I said. Turns out that they were outside our old flat. I've only previously had one order with Ikea, and it came here. Utterly boggled about how they even had that address, but they had a van doing SE London and Ashford today, so it should be here in a couple of hours.
