Somewhat randomly....

For well over a year now, I've been swearing and muttering to myself whenever The Listening Project comes on Radio 4. Given that it's stuck on at the end of a truncated edition of Feedback, I've even been muttering about how I should email them and whinge.

(For those who haven't heard it, it's a five minute slot in which two 'normal' people have a conversation about something that matters to them. I vaguely remember one interesting episode in the first season, but in general it suffers from the problem that most people aren't actually all that interesting, and the lack of an interviewer to direct the conversation means that it usually degenerates into a saccharine, maudlin love-in that's about as interesting as listening to the resident drunks having their usual argument at the bar of the local pub. Anyone can record themselves and send the file in, and presumably some poor intern at the BBC has to listen to them all and send the slightly less tedious ones up the chain for broadcast.)

Last night, I actually emailed Feedback. I've just got off the phone with the producer, who was trying to get me to go on air to ask the R4 controller to get rid of it....

(I declined, but I hope that they do get someone to do it: apparently I'm not the first person to complain about it!)
